Nicholas Hlobo
South African artist Nicholas Hlobo needed four sets of altered-scale tables and chairs for the New York showing of his piece Sewing Saw. The height of the furniture posed a unique challenge: The pieces needed to appear delicate and spindly while providing stability for the performers above. Using traditional joinery techniques and revised geometry to trick the eye, we were able to fulfill the artist’s vision.
